I used to work here and this is just a horrible place to be an employee and a patron. The managment doesn't work with the employees to fix problems and the atmosphere is tolerable at best. They serve generic chain restaurant food and have it delivered to your table by girls in low cut tops. This might be a fun place to have a couple drinks but I wouldn't recommend to families or adults who want to go out to dinner. Their dress code is made to accept collegiate offspring of white bread suburban America and they sometimes even charge people who are not Caucasian a cover charge so they can discourage "the wrong type of people". I can't believe they haven't had legal issues with the doorway segregation that they are using to filter their patrons. It is a college bar with a bar-like atmosphere and after hours it turns into a hybrid club sort of atmosphere where you have to push people out of the way just to walk across the room and people are throwing up in the bathrooms on the busy weekend nights. This is basically a dive bar college crowd put into a nice Eddy Street Commons building.

Three people at the bar, 2 bartenders and I had to throw something at one to get another beer. These girls are either drinking on the job or too busy thinking about getting their GED. what a waste of time and money. McDonalds has better service.

South Bend is rife with chain bars and restaurants, and this is the most forgettable of all of them, which is an impressive feat. Uninterested servers, dickhead bouncers, mediocre food, and completely reprehensible clientele. Brother's Bar and Grill:bars::Chicken McNuggets:chicken

Brothers is exactly what you would expect from a bar so close to a university. Lots of college students. They recently updated their menu and it is awesome. Lots of yummy options. Late night on the weekends service can be hard to come by but if you sit at a table and get a server tip her well and they'll take care of you.

Not a good chain or a bad one. Massive interior. Great location on Eddy St. Try those balls!

I was discouraged by the low review, but came here anyways because I was hungry and it seemed like a good local spot, on recommendation from my hotel. Its what I usually look for :) I was pleasantly surprised. Its new and clean and has a nice patio area! The food is upscale bar food, but yummy! I got the cheese curds and they were good. $5 wing lunch special on wednesdays :) 4 stars for what it is!

Couldn't get in - Sunday night - school not in session - had my 18 year old soon 10 minutes after 9 - couldn't go in even with a parent or two after 9 - wasnt very happening - wanted to watch the end of game 5 of NBA championship with him - couldn't enter because he wasn't 21 - ok - understand policy - but walking by window had to be 6 different tables with kids under 12 - only people in the place - hope they had a packed place of 21 year olds later on - they need to understand the time of year and change policies accordingly

    Chain restaurant, average bar food.

Never even got to try their food, before ordering I was told that I had to give the server my Drivers License and Credit Card prior to ordering and that they would hold on to both until I was done with my meal........I am not going to let some stranger walk around with that kind of information. A TON of credit fraud happens at restaurants. The manager came over and stated that it was their corporate policy to take people's Drivers License and Credit Cards prior to ordering, and that if I did not like that policy, then I could "pay as I order" with cash. I chose to take my business elsewhere instead. Very insulting to be treated like this. The manager said that this was the only way they could assure that they are going to be paid. Sorry, I don't trust them enough to hand them over that kind of information.

Solid bar food, good taps. Friendly place for families and friends alike.

Was there over the weekend for football. Went in and was seated by the hostess. Became really annoyed when people seated around us , after us, were ordering food and we haven't yet been approached for drink order. Went to one waitress and then the hostess complaining. Finally a waitress. On the bright side the hamburgers were good enough, but all in all the service was lousy.

Went on a Sunday night. I was drawn in with the $3 pints. First three choices I tried were not available. Of course they were the most expensive ones. On the upside I was able to order a tasty Scottish ale. The atmosphere is what has been stated before. An upscale trendy sports bar hangout for the college crowd. So plenty of TV screens, music in the background, pool tables etc. So well done if that is what you are looking for in terms of environment. Good food, which outside of beer, is why a person would seek out this establishment. Sadly this is what was lacking. My wife ordered the spicy artichoke dip. The need to drop the word spicy. It was rather bland unless you ate one of the three jaleopenos slices placed on top. There were a boat load of tortilla chips yet most lacked flavor as the seasoning was not evenly distributed. We had to ask for more seasoning. We even added to the dip itself. I ordered the blackened blue burger with fries. Burger texture was good. Amount of blue crumbles adequate but I wish there were a bit more. What was disappointing was that the burger was not encrusted with Cajun seasoning i.e. not blackened. Almost like all they did was dust it with Cajun seasoning. I had to ask for more Cajun spices just to get some decent flavor. Also, and this is a bit minor, but a pickle spear should have been included with any burger. It helps to enhance burgers by awaking other zones on your palate. Fries were average. The best part was our server. She did a nice job working through the beer issues. She recommended to sample a couple of beers and that is how I ended up with the fine Scottish ale. My first beer glass, received before our food order, had a caked on piece of cheese. She replaced this glass quickly. She also knew the menu well. In addition she never rushed us and indeed had nice table pacing and attention. Definitely the best element of the bar and grill. But food and beer is what should also make a place a person want to return, and this is not the case for this restaurant.

Stopped in for a quick bite with my daughter. Service was good and food was decent. Exactly what you'd expect. Patio was busy, but appeared to be the spot everyone wanted to sit.

I came here while on a visit to Notre Dame. Atmosphere: Apparently this place is pretty new; it seems to be less than a year old. The theme is an old garage, as this place has plenty of automobile related decorations from yesteryear. It's nice, but a little cookie cutter, and huge. Think B dubs except cheaper and different theme. A ton of flat screens everywhere. You could easily fit 100+ in the bar. Drinks/Service: They had a ton of drinks on tap to choose from, from domestic crafts to imports. It's reasonably priced from 4-5 dollars a pint. The service I got wasn't too shabby; they were relatively accommodating to me wanting to watch a Food: This is where it was awesome for me. I happened to come on .25 cent wing night; I got 20 spicy garlic wings. These were easily top 10 best wings I've had. I may even venture to say top 5 best wings I've ever had. Huge, crunchy, and the sauce was great. I highly recommend coming here for the wings. All in all this place is a notch above the competition with the quality of food and selection of drinks, all at a decent price. I definitely would recommend coming here if you happen to be in South Bend, cuz there's really no other place to go lol.

One of the worst bars I have ever been to. First thing I DEFINITELY DID NOT LIKE was they would not let me in the place with my gold chain (necklace) on...... What kind of dress code is against jewelry, I had a pocket full of money and atleast 15 other people with me. I had planned to spend a lot of money since I was on vacation. So okay I take my necklace off and put it in my pocket. Once we get in the place it is packed with college students which is cool I have several college students with me, so I catch a waitress and ask her for a bottle of Hennessy and she doesn't even know what Hennessy is goes to the bar to check if they have it comes back and says they don't sell Hennessy. This is the first bar I ever been to that didn't sell Hennessy so I'm like okay well let us get a bottle of whatever cognac you guys have. She comes back and tells me they don't have any cognac. By now I see it is pretty much time for me and my crew to go so I say well let me get a couple Heinekens since my mouth is like extremely dry I just needed something. While waiting for my beer we talking checking out the scene I notice there are no beautiful woman in this place atleast none that would catch my eye just a bunch of trashy looking drunk chicks with No style or fashion (BUM BITCHES)...... After hearing a couple of Justin Bieber & Miley Cyrus songs I killed my beer and it was time to go. I would never go to this place again or would I suggest any person of color to go there. They definitely do not want your money the place feels so weird and segregated.

I really had a great time at Brothers. I went for the ND/Alabama championship game in January 2013. The entire building was filled to capacity that night, but Brothers still offered very good, fast, friendly service at the bar, and did not seem overwhelmed. The building is spacious and I can't even count the number of large screen TV's they have - its no problem getting a view of the game. They had a heated tent out on the front patio for smokers, and none of the odor came into the building. Restrooms were clean. There were servers, polo-shirt attired security, and busboys roaming the floor, and they seemed to be well prepared for the large crowd. South Bend Police were also stopping in from time-to-time and SBPD had a foot patrol officer on Eddy Street, so it felt very safe, including the walk to/from the car. Great job, Brothers! The beer selection was good too, and I will be back.

Brother's bar and grill is ok. It's a huge sports bar with a good selection beer and cocktails. There is a good menu of bar snacks plus full meals and salads. We decided to try Brother's before a hockey game. The place has a nice interior with lots of big screens to watch. A central bar with a double row of seats, and a table section. There's a big patio with heaters, but we opted for the inside. There were garage style doors, so the summer seating looked promising. The server was very nice, but she seemed very new. My cocktail was incorrect, and was replaced quickly by my friend going to the bar, rather then waiting for the server to return. The southwest salad I ordered without chips came with chips but without dressing. The food was flavorful and the chili was tasty. I am hoping my experience with poor service was unique and will try again to see if the service improves I had none of the problems that the other review mentions.

The best thing about Brothers is the sports bar atmosphere, if that is what you want and you are willing to put up with poor service and overpriced food, then go. If you want to eat better burgers and fries but want beer, go to Five Guys first and then go to Brothers for a beer. I think that the manager of Brothers forgets that the restaurant business is a service industry and requires great customer service. The overall staff lacks leadership and it reflects on the staff that would rather be anywhere but there working. Because there is no accountability, the service is allowed to be subpar. Simply depending on the profit of a natural Notre Dame crowd is not an excuse to run this establishment so poorly. The food is decent for bar food but greatly overpriced. The burgers are no thicker than those at Five Guys and almost $3-4 more. Ridiculous! Let me encourage Brothers to start over, clean house and get stronger leadership in. Hire the manager at McAlister's, he is phenomenal and that staff understand what customer service means.

this brother's, like ALL brother's, is ok. i have to admit, however, that what i ordered - some chicken wrap thingy with queso - was MUCH better than what i have gotten at the brother's in newport. a decent option and not pricey. i will be back, but brother's will doubtfully ever be an end destination. another thing - the staff is very friendly and deserves five stars, even though the food they serve is 3.

Yeah, they've got a shitload of good beer on tap, friendly staff, a nice, clean atmoshphere, magnificent television sets, a mesmerizing soundsystem, state-of-the-art urinals and shitters, and even delicious fried cheese curds. Generic, overpriced, and soul-killing.

I went to this god awful bar & grill for my birthday weekend with my brother and his wife. It's a pretty new place in the South Bend area near Notre Dame. As soon as I gave my ID to the security at the door he eyed my up and down and told me to take off my hat and tuck in my chain. For what? This isn't a nightclub, it's club. I wasn't dressed like a thug or anything. Yet as I walked in this place I noticed nearly EVERY guy had on a baseball hat on. The bartenders were horrible. The security was condescending and the staff was rude. This visit to a typical establishment in South Bend just totally reminded me why I moved out of that god forsaken city.

Let me start this review by saying that I used to really like this place. The ambiance and service is nothing special and I haven't eaten here, but on Sundays almost all of their draft beer costs $3 for a pint. This is a good deal as they have several uncommon craft beers on tap. However, my opinion changed on Superbowl Sunday. I was there with two other people for a few hours. I had six beers, but noticed when I got my bill that I was being charged for ten. All three of us were charged for more beer than we drank. I brought this to our waitress's' attention and was promptly told that we were wrong and that we indeed drank a total of eleven beers more than we really did. A manager came to our table and said she would have to check the cameras to confirm how many drinks we consumed then disappeared, but after 20 minutes of waiting it became clear that she was basically telling us to f*** off. We flagged our waitress down one last time and after slightly berating her and pointing out for the millionth time that I'd be unconscious if I truly drank ten 10% ABV Hopslams she finally gave us correct bills and acted like she was doing us a huge favor for doing so. I will not be returning to Brother's after this fiasco and would not recommend it to anyone.

It is what it is... a chain bar in a college town. And for that it is good. It's a big place with lots of beers on tap and some pretty decent food. I've only been here during the day, so I can't speak to the night crowd, but I have none of the complaints voiced by others. Keep your expectations realistic and you won't be disappointed. Oh yeah, try the cheese curds!

This is a new restaurant bar in south bend. The service is awful and the food is not much better. They should shut down and cut their losses. I have been their 2 times and will not be going back!

Come here if you want pretty good, predictable burgers and a large on-tap beer selection. Prices match the food quality well. Went on a Friday night around 6:30. Had fun, but nothing extraordinary. As a side note related to another user's review -- they did not require my ID and credit card upon entry. . .

It's not the worst place in the world...but it's not the greatest. It's massive and the space is utilized well, the bartenders are usually just fine, and it's probably the best place for dancing. Really, though, this is what is commonly referred to as a "bro" bar. It's weird, crowded, and...that about sums it up. Wearing jean shorts, sandals, a plain wifebeater shirt with an unbent New Era cap? No problem! Wearing a dress shirt with a knit hat? "Hey, pal, that's against our dress code"...wait, what?! Honestly saw that happen. I'm assuming this place is the established breeding ground between ND undergrads and the locals, because that's pretty much all I've seen going on.

Went here because it seemed difficult to find decent food near Notre Dame. It was recommended by our hotel. Being from the Midwest, I was excited to see that they offered cheese curds as an appetizer - awesome! They were the white cheese, not the yellow cheddar, which I don't consider as authentic....but they were still tasty. The booths were really deep and there were plenty of high and low tables scattered throughout the restaurant/bar as well. We were there for dinner around 7:30p on a Tuesday night, and there were probably about 20 people in the entire place. Lots of pretty decent bar food options: a word of caution - they put shredded cheese on EVERYTHING. I got a nice house salad for about $6. It was huge and definitely enough for a light dinner....but it was almost impossible to see the green stuff because of the cheese! Their house balsamic vinaigrette was fantastic. My boyfriend had "the Big Irish", which was an open-faced hot dog with chili, onions, cheese (see? more cheese!), and a fried egg. It came with kettle chips (kinda bland). He said it was more than enough food (and he's a big guy). I'll bet this place really gets packed during ND football games, seeing as it's right across the street from the stadium. Nothing super special, didn't have any drinks so I can't speak to the specials or their selection.
